Why this needs a tool at all
Airtable is a good place for a content calendar: a table with a caption, a date, attachments and a status, with views for every way you want to slice it. What it cannot do is show those records the way they will look on an Instagram profile, or post them. So people download attachments they already uploaded and rebuild the plan in a scheduler.
Ninecast runs inside the base as an extension: it is handed your records, shows the grid, and publishes from a tile.
Setting it up, step by step
- Start a free trial at getninecast.com and choose Airtable. You get a planner link by email. There is no account or password; the link is the login.
- Add the extension. In your base, open Tools → Extensions and add Ninecast.
- Paste your planner link into the extension’s settings.
- Pick the table your posts live in. The caption, date and attachment fields are guessed for you; adjust them if needed.
- Connect Instagram with a professional account.
- Publish from a tile. Tap a tile to preview the post, then Post now.
What you see in the base
- A real three-across grid of your records, ordered by scheduled date, with carousels showing their slide count and Reels playing on hover.
- Live updates. Change a date or swap an attachment and the grid re-renders immediately; the extension reads the base directly.
- Counts of posts, scheduled and posted, at the top.
- Images fixed for you at publish time: PNGs converted, odd shapes padded to what Instagram accepts.
- Never posts twice. A double tap or a retry cannot produce a second copy.
After the post goes out
Likes, comments, shares, saves, reach and views come back into the record, along with the permalink, so the base you planned in is also the base you report from. Nothing is exported and no second tool is involved.
Airtable and Notion get the same planner: the same grid, the same scheduled publishing, the same numbers written back. Pick whichever your content already lives in.
Questions that follow
Can Airtable post to Instagram by itself?
No. Airtable has no Instagram integration. Ninecast adds one as an extension inside the base: it shows your records as an Instagram grid and publishes a record to Instagram when you press Post now.
Do I need Zapier or Make to post to Instagram from Airtable?
No. The Ninecast extension reads the base it lives in directly and publishes through Ninecast. There is no automation to build, and no per-run pricing.
Does it schedule posts automatically from Airtable?
Yes. Put a date and time on the record and turn auto-post on, and Ninecast publishes it at that time whether or not the base is open. The same queue runs Notion and Airtable planners, so nothing is waiting on you being at a laptop. You can still publish any tile with one tap when you want a post out early.
Which kinds of Instagram posts can I publish from Airtable?
Feed posts, carousels and Reels. One attachment on the record is a post, several are a carousel, a video is a Reel. Images are converted and padded automatically to what Instagram accepts.
Does it work with my existing base?
Yes. The extension reads whichever table your posts live in and guesses which fields hold the caption, the date and the attachments. You can change the mapping at any time.
Do I need a paid Airtable plan?
Extensions are a feature of paid Airtable plans, so yes. Airtable sets that, not us.
What kind of Instagram account do I need?
A professional account, Business or Creator. Instagram only allows publishing tools on those.
How much does it cost?
The grid preview is free, forever. Publishing is on Creator, $15 a month or $12 a month billed yearly, for 3 planners — and the free plan includes 2 posts so you can see it work first.
