How to schedule Instagram posts from Notion

Keep your content calendar in Notion, paste one Ninecast link into the page, and each row publishes to Instagram on its scheduled date: feed posts, carousels and Reels. A real grid preview sits beside the calendar, and after each post goes out, its likes, comments, reach and saves are written back into the row. No Zapier, no Make, no exporting.

Why this needs a tool at all

Notion is where a lot of content calendars already live: a database with a caption, a date, an image and a status. But Notion cannot post anything, and it cannot show you what a month of those rows looks like as an Instagram feed. So people copy captions into a scheduler, download images they already uploaded, and keep two calendars that drift.

Ninecast reads the Notion database you already have and does the two things Notion cannot: show the grid, and publish on schedule.

Setting it up, step by step

  1. Start a free trial at getninecast.com. You get a planner link by email. There is no account or password; the link is the login.
  2. Have a Notion database for your posts. Use your own, or duplicate the free Ninecast content calendar template, which has every column ready.
  3. Paste the link into the Notion page that holds the database, on a new line, and choose Embed. The Ninecast widget appears.
  4. Connect Notion from the widget. Tick the page with your calendar and allow access. With the template, the columns map themselves and the grid fills in. With your own database, confirm which column is the date, the caption and the images.
  5. Connect Instagram from the widget, with a professional account.
  6. Switch on auto-post. Every row now publishes at its scheduled date and time. Or press a tile and publish it now.

If something was scheduled and did not go out, this is every reason that happens. The setup guide covers each step with what you will see on screen. Most people are done in ten minutes.

What a scheduled row needs

  • A caption. Published exactly as written, hashtags included.
  • Media. One image for a post, several for a carousel, a video for a Reel. PNGs and odd aspect ratios are converted and padded for you; Instagram would otherwise refuse them.
  • A scheduled date and time. Without a time, the planner’s default posting time is used.

Change the date in Notion and the tile moves in the grid within a second. Delete the row and it goes. A post can never go out twice: a double tap, a retry or a changed date cannot produce a second copy.

After it publishes

The post’s URL is written into the row’s Published link column and the tile shows as published. Then the numbers come back: every night, Ninecast reads likes, comments, shares, saves, reach and views from Instagram for every post from the last two weeks and writes them into the row that produced it. Press Update analytics in the widget to fetch them now. If you delete a post on Instagram, its tile is marked deleted.

Compared with the usual workarounds

  • Zapier or Make automations can push a Notion row to a scheduler, but you still need the scheduler, you maintain the automation, and nothing comes back to Notion. Ninecast is the scheduler, and it writes results back.
  • Notion grid-preview widgets show a feed but cannot post. Ninecast previews and publishes from the same rows.
  • A separate scheduling app means a second calendar to keep in step. Here the Notion database is the only calendar.
  • Most schedulers stop at posting. The numbers stay in Instagram Insights, or in the scheduler’s own dashboard, and end up in a spreadsheet by hand. Ninecast writes likes, comments, shares, saves, reach and views into the Notion row that made the post, every night and on demand, so your calendar is also your report.

Questions that follow

Can Notion post to Instagram by itself?

No. Notion has no Instagram integration and cannot publish anywhere. Ninecast adds that: it reads your Notion database and publishes each row to Instagram on its scheduled date, without you leaving Notion.

Do I need Zapier or Make to schedule Instagram posts from Notion?

No. Ninecast connects to Notion and Instagram directly. There is no automation to build or maintain, and no per-task pricing. You paste one link into your Notion page and connect Instagram inside it.

Which kinds of Instagram posts can be scheduled from Notion?

Feed posts, carousels and Reels. One image in the row is a post, several are a carousel, a video is a Reel. Images are converted and padded automatically to what Instagram accepts.

Does it work with my existing Notion database?

Yes. Ninecast reads any Notion database and asks you once which column is the date, the caption and the media. If you prefer, a free Ninecast content calendar template comes with every column already set up and maps itself.

Can I see what my Instagram grid will look like before posting?

Yes. The Ninecast widget shows a real three-across Instagram grid beside your Notion calendar, updating within a second of any change to the database, so you see the feed before it exists.

What happens after a post is published?

The post's link is written into the Notion row, the tile shows as published, and every night Ninecast writes the post's likes, comments, shares, saves, reach and views into the same row. A button in the widget fetches them on demand.

What kind of Instagram account do I need?

A professional account, Business or Creator. Instagram only allows publishing tools on those. Switching a personal account takes a minute in Instagram settings.

How much does it cost?

The grid preview is free, forever. Publishing is on Creator, $15 a month or $12 a month billed yearly, for 3 planners — and the free plan includes 2 posts so you can see it work first.
